An Oneonta man has been charged with felony marijuana possession, according to Otsego County deputies.
Matthew M. Maloney, 20, was charged Nov. 2 with first-degree criminal possession of marijuana, a class C felony, and the class A misdemeanors of seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and unlawfully growing cannabis, deputies said in a media release.
The arrest involved the execution of a search warrant at his residence in the town of Oneonta, where deputies said marijuana was growing inside the home as well as in a nearby field.
After the evidence was processed, the defendant was found to be in possession of about 18 pounds of marijuana, deputies said, and a small quantity of suspected psilocybin mushrooms was located inside the residence.
The defendant was arraigned in the Milford Town Court and released on recognizance, pending a Nov. 9 appearance in Oneonta Town Court, the Nov. 3 release said.
The Oneonta Police Department Detective Division assisted with the execution of the search warrant, deputies said.
