WLUK) — Health officials have confirmed another case of severe bleeding caused by using synthetic cannabinoids containing rat poison.

This time, it comes from Racine County.

There are now a total of 67 confirmed cases in Wisconsin and 16 probable cases, the Wisconsin Department of Health Services says. One person in Milwaukee County has died as a result of the outbreak.

Other counties with confirmed cases are: Dane, Fond du Lac, Milwaukee, Outagamie, and Rock.

Synthetic cannabinoids otherwise known as “fake weed,” K2 and Spice, is created by spraying chemicals on dried plant material to be inhaled in tobacco products like e-cigarettes and other vaping devices.

Health officials continue to urge people to stop using these products.

“The health effects from using them can be unpredictable, harmful, and even life threatening,” said Karen McKeown, State Health Officer.

Although synthetic cannabinoid products are not legal in Wisconsin, they’re sold at gas stations, convenience stores, drug paraphernalia shops, novelty stores and online.
