Six arrested, drugs and lab equipment seized from two illegal marijuana dispensaries

Five men and a woman have been arrested following the execution of search warrants at two marijuana dispensaries that were operating illegally in Moncton, N.B.

On February 14, 2018, members of the Codiac Regional RCMP executed search warrants at two marijuana dispensaries on Mapleton Road. A quantity of marijuana was seized from each location. Police also seized lab equipment believed to be used for the manufacturing of cannabis oil. Six people were arrested at the scenes and released pending future court appearances.

A 25-year-old man from Moncton will appear in court on May 17, 2018. A 22-year-old man from Riverview and a 37-year-old man from Moncton will appear in court on June 14, 2018. A 19-year-old man and a 33-year-old man from Moncton, and a 56-year-old woman from Lakeville will appear in court on August 16, 2018.

The RCMP is working to determine who the supplier of the drug is, as it is illegal and unregulated. The investigation is continuing.

“There is no legal mechanism that allows for medical marijuana dispensaries to sell cannabis to the public,” says Sgt. Louis Robichaud of the Codiac Regional RCMP. “The products they sell are unregulated. This is dangerous for any customers, because they cannot be sure of the contents or quality of the product they are consuming.”

Cannabis remains a controlled substance. The only legal way to obtain marijuana is to purchase it from a licenced producer, in accordance with the Access to Cannabis for Medical Purposes regulations. Businesses or individuals operating in contravention of the CDSA and Health Canada regulations may be subject to investigation and criminal charges in accordance with Canadian law.
