Despite the 28 degree weather, about 50 Siskiyou County residents, including teachers and students, showed up to support the March For Our Lives demonstration Saturday morning in Weed.
It began in Bel Air Park at 9 a.m. with a series of speakers. Those in attendance joined 800 sister events happening throughout the country.
The March was put together by Violet Carter, a senior at Weed High School, after she decided she was fed up with the nation’s school violence.
Speakers included Siskiyou County Sheriff Jon Lopey, who spoke about ways that the County is defining protocols to protect students, and College of the Siskiyous student Madison Sager, who spoke about the rising wave of mental health problems in adolescents. Sager expressed that students need people to talk to.
Some participants held signs with messages such as: “Enough” and “If you see something, say something.”
