A 13-year-old girl found dead over the weekend in Texas was abducted as ransom for stolen marijuana, according to authorities.
Police said Shavon Randle was kidnapped Wednesday from a Lancaster home after the boyfriend of one of her relatives stole about 22 pounds of pot, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported.
Soon after she was abducted, suspects allegedly called a relative from a private number and told them, “Give us our sh-t back or we are going to kill her.”
Her body was discovered at an abandoned Dallas home Saturday night where 19-year-old Michael Titus, a person of interest in her disappearance, was also found dead. Police did not explain a possible motive for Titus’ death.
Officers were led to the house by suspect Desmond Jones, who was collared on Sunday for failure to report a death.
Authorities said the kidnapping came two days after 22-year-old Kendall Perkins, who was dating Shavon’s cousin, stole the pot from a group of men at Motel 6 in Lancaster.
Among the men were Darius Fields, 26, and Devontae Owens, 24 — who were later arrested for kidnapping Shavon.
Police took another suspect, Laquon Wilkerson, 30, into custody Saturday and charged him with aggravated kidnapping for ransom.
Perkins, who fled to a Lancaster home after the alleged robbery, was arrested Saturday for swiping the marijuana.
It wasn’t immediately clear if more arrests would be made, but authorities said the investigation was ongoing.
