While U.S. 287 continues to see its share of drug trafficking, IH 40 is no stranger to traffickers.
At around 2 pm on August 1st, a DPS trooper stopped a 1999 Ford pickup traveling east on IH-40 near Conway, for a traffic violation. The DPS Trooper then discovered over 400 bundles of marijuana hidden in a false diesel tank located in the bed of the pickup.
In total, 500 pounds of marijuana was seized with a street value of $3.1 million. The driver, Ismael Cano, 26, of El Paso, was arrested and charged with felony possession of marijuana. Cano was transported and booked into the Carson County jail. The drugs were reportedly bound for Oklahoma.
