Weed the Homeless offers free pot

LOS ANGELES, California (WTHR) – A “grass roots” campaign in California is helping the homeless by distributing food, clothes and even pot.

It’s called Weed the Homeless and it supports people living on the streets of Los Angeles and San Diego.

Organizers enlist the help of people in the cannabis industry to hand out the marijuana.

They say pot helps treat medical conditions and offers a better alternative to dangerous drugs.

“If you look at places where they have legalized recreational cannabis,” says activist Jackie Sponseller, “the levels of people overdosing from hard drugs and usage have gone down substantially.”

This weekend marks the fourth time locals in the cannabis industry have donated time and resources to the program.
