A call from a roadside assistance provider on the Taconic State Parkway ended with a drug possession arrest, according to state police.
Kayla S. Babus, 29, of Saratoga County, was charged Dec. 1 with the felonies of third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and third-degree possession with intent to sell; second-degree criminal use of drug paraphernalia, a misdemeanor; and unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation.
State police say they got a call about a disabled vehicle on the Taconic in Pleasant Valley from a roadside assistance provider.
Once on the scene, “troopers shifted their response from assisting a motorist to investigating the possibility of drug possession,” according to police. “Troopers detected an odor of marijuana and questioned Babus,” who admitted she had some.
Police say they also found 22 grams of cocaine and other drug paraphernalia.
Babus was arraigned in the Town of Pleasant Valley Court and sent to Dutchess County Jail on a $10,000 bail or $20,000 bond.
