Blue Dream has been on the market for some time now. Originating in California, this hybrid strain of blueberry, a pain relieving indica, and Haze, an uplifting sativa has been a favorite on the west coast since marijuana became legal for medicinal purposes. That being said, TheLaughingGrass is reviewing this strain directly to report the effects of the potency, effects, and the sad-sad fall back to earth. Originally, when I sampled this strain, I wasn’t a fan. Months later I decided to give the strain another shot and much to my surprise, it delivered. Now, Blue Dream is a trusty friend when I can find it.
When first opening the container, I was immediately met with a pungent, sweet smell that had obviously been building for a few days. Upon further inspection, the smell is quite sweet and one of the few available in my area without notes of citrus, so it’s refreshing. The dried buds are one of the denser strains that I have encountered. Calyx’s (the orange hairs) cover the buds adding a wonderful fire red to it’s visual, but the true star of this strain is the amount of trichomes covering each individual bud. The sugary, crystal-like substance is known to have the highest concentration of THC. Breaking one of the buds in half, I am met with more trichome crystals throughout the inner bud, thus growing my excitement. The strain boasts a 20% THC level and a .1-.2% CBD concentration.
I like to put all strains through a herb grinder for consistency. Again, breaking off a small portion produced a lot in the bottom of my grinder. The strain itself seems a little overly dry in the center, something that I feel takes away from the density of the smoke you receive per hit. Typically, with a dry, dense strain like Blue Dream, I hold my flame a bit further away from the bowl to draw out the most THC possible. Some critics like to tell me to moisten the bid first, but as a rule of consistency, I smoke and review what I am given.
My first inhale of the strain revealed a blueberry taste, much like it’s smell and it’s very upfront. I had to take another hit to detect some of the smooth earthy notes that linger behind. I consider my tolerance to be high with any strain of marijuana, but within a few minutes, I had a ringing in my ears, and I was…what was I? “There’s a Starman waiting in the sky, he’d like to come and meet us, but he thinks he’d blow our minds.” Ahem…Where was I? Oh yea, thanks David Bowie!
Seriously though, euphoria, relaxation, and a general sense of wellbeing are an understatement with this strain. For those of us who rely on creativity, Blue Dream will both relax you and make you want to work at the same time. It’s perfect for creative professions such as writing or painting. The uplifting feeling is a definite plus, especially for someone who may suffer from depression. I don’t notice an anxious feeling with the strain that is common in some hybrids. Overall, it’s a smooth high.
