You Can Now Smoke Weed at Vancouver Airport

Cannabis-Notice

ancouver is coming for you for the title of “dankest airport.” On Wednesday, Canada became the world’s second country to legalize recreational marijuana, and Vancouver International Airport (YVR) has decided to join in on the action. The airport is opening up its designated smoking areas to cannabis consumers.

However, people may have already been taking some liberties when it comes to smoking marijuana at the airport.

Either way, with the new legislation, it’s now officially permitted by airport officials. “We provide a smoke- and vape-free environment inside the airport—at all times and for all substances—and have designated smoking and vaping areas outside the terminal building for public use,” reads a statement posted on the YVR website. “Airport users, as a condition of using the airport facilities, must obey smoke-free and vape-free signage at all times and for all substances.”

Consumption of cannabis is only permitted in marked off smoking-zones outside of the airport terminals. Officials have installed signs and guides on how to properly abide by these new laws as well. They warn against crossing international borders in possession of cannabis (it’s illegal to do so,) how laws vary from province to province and to know the laws wherever you travel.

In September, Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) also made some adjustments to its marijuana regulations when it announced that you can, in fact, bring a legal portion of the substance through airport security. Like in Canada, legalization of recreational marijuana has been a growing trend in the US as well. Ontario Airport (ONT), which is also located in California, has its very own “cannabis is legal” security check bins to celebrate the fact.
