There were no wedding bells at this Nevada couple’s nuptials — instead, the duo tied the knot surrounded by hundreds of marijuana plants and grow lights.
Anna and Mark Balfe-Taylor got hitched Saturday in a cultivation facility for The Grove — one of Las Vegas’ largest pot dispensaries — the same morning the state legalized recreational marijuana.
“Mark asked me, and I had to think about it,” Anna told KSNV. “I support it. I think it’s great.”
Mark told the station that he became passionate about pot legalization after his father was jailed on a cannabis crime.
“It’s about the freedom to have choice on a substance that is harmless if they want,” Mark told KSNV.
Instead of flowers, Mark wore a marijuana bud as a corsage. The ceremony was only about 20 minutes long because of the heat in the grow room.
But the couple — who met in a yoga class — insisted they didn’t celebrate by getting high.
“Due to the fact that it still has been a federal offense, as a parent, it’s not something that I wanted for my family considering my upbringing,” Mark told the station.
