Cannabis concentrates have become very popular and are in high demand in the marijuana industry. They do not derive from the buds or flowers. These concentrates are available in different sizes, shapes, and forms. Most are described to be sticky while others are oily and can have an opaque or translucent appeal. Consistencies often range from dry crumbles, sticky saps, hard shatters and some in between.
Concentrates are produced by using solvents such as butane, ethanol, or CO2. This procedure for extraction can give the concentrates higher levels of THC and CBD up to 80% or even greater. They are mainly used medicinally but can also be used for edibles, sprays, and even lotions.
Physical agitation, moisture, and temperature changes all play a role in the difference between concentrates. Each type will need to be handled in a certain way because some need to be scooped while others will stick to a tool. Here are the types of concentrates that you can encounter over the course of time.
Wax
Wax is a concentrate that comes in a sticky form. It will need to be handled with a dab tool that is clean and free of any debris. Wax should not be handled with your hands because it can be slightly hard to remove and can get on anything you touch. Avoid using wax paper for this concentrate. You will waste wax and can sometimes pierce the paper causing it to lurk its way into your dab. Parchment paper or reusable silicone containers are best suited to hold wax.
Budder
Budder has a consistency that is very similar to peanut butter with a low THC concentration. It’s produced by whipping shatter or the original sap and introducing more moisture. Shatter will break down into budder over time if left alone because it picks up moisture from the air. If you find yourself having issues getting the budder on your dabber tool, stick it in the freezer at the max of fifteen minutes. It can safely be kept in a silicone container or parchment paper.
Shatter
Shatter can be described as clear, solid, and smooth. It’s considered to be the most potent and purest concentrated option. It is created by processing hash oil through a second extraction that will remove waxes, lipids, and fats. Some shatter is smooth to the touch while there are other kinds of shatter that contains adhesive properties. This form of concentrate can be handled with clean fingers or if you prefer to use your dabber, lightly heat it to melt it onto the tool. It is best contained with parchment paper.
Crumble
This concentrate has the driest consistency of the rest. Crumble can be broken down into portioned dabs before each session. When butane hash oil is whipped or vacuumed, the wax will turn into a brittle, soft substance that crumbles. Direct heat should be applied. It can be quite potent and used to be crumbled finely. It is said to resemble kief. You should avoid using parchment paper and use a glass or silicone container.
