Three people are under arrest after the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office said one of them robbed a Shasta Lake resident of pot plants by pointing a handgun at her head and the other two refused to cooperate with deputies Friday evening.
Deputies said they received a report about 5:30 p.m. Friday from Julia Thompson, who said two men stole her three large backyard marijuana plants from her home in the 17000 block of Latigo Way.
She said she confronted Ronald Dale Kuykendall and another man when she found them in her backyard taking her plants. Kuykendall pointed a black handgun at Thompson’s head and left with the unidentified man in a gray Ford Mustang with the pot plants, deputies said.
Deputies later spotted Kuykendall’s car parked in front of his residence on Elizabeth Street. Deputies also learned Kuykendall was on felony probation for assault with a deadly weapon.
With the help of a California Highway Patrol helicopter, deputies surrounded the residence and called on the occupants to exit. Three people approached the front door, but only Kuykendall came out.
After announcements and phone calls, deputies continued to order Jerry Shepard and Sandra Shepard to leave the house. After about 40 minutes, deputies entered, conducted a probation search and arrested the Shepards, who were booked for obstructing and delaying a peace officer.
In the search, deputies did not find a firearm nor the stolen marijuana plants.
Kuykendall was arrested on suspicion of robbery. His alleged accomplice in the robbery was not found, deputies said.
Anyone with information about the crime is asked to call the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office or SHASCOM at 530-245-6540.
