A man blew weed smoke in a dying baby’s face to try and cure the head injuries he and the girl’s mother allegedly inflicted on her, police say. Joshua Molina denied a murder charge Monday over claims he battered 20 month-old Lyryk Altom, who was his girlfriend’s daughter, before using marijuana smoke to try and cure her. Lyryk died last October of a brain bleed, six days after she was finally taken to hospital.
The doctor who treated her later told police that the infant had suffered ‘non-accidental blunt force trauma.’ MagicValley.com reported claims Lyryk’s mom, Amanda Dunlap, told police that Molina refused to let her seek medical assistance for Lyryk while he attempted the weed cure. Dunlap, of Twin Falls, Id., is also said to have told police that Molina was afraid of having his son taken away from him if Lyryk tested positive for marijuana. Photos and texts seen by police are said to back up theories that Lyryk was abused in the run-up to her death.

A memorial page set up for Lyryk on Facebook appears to show the little girl covered in sores and bruises, although it is unclear if this is the same evidence that police are referring to. After Lyryk died, her alleged killer tried to play down his involvement in her medical care, but this was later disputed by Dunlap. Lyryk’s father, Logan Altom, told KMTV that it had been ‘really hard to hold it together’ in the wake of her death. He added: ‘She was such a beautiful baby girl and it was such a heinous crime.’
