WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. —Police officers were conducting a search warrant for drugs at a Winston-Salem woman’s home on Monday morning when a package of marijuana was delivered right to the door step.
Investigators found eight marijuana plants from the back porch of the home and about a half-pound of pound of marijuana from inside the residence.
While officers were at the home for the investigation, a parcel delivery service delivered a package to the home.
The officers determined that the package originated in Portland, Oregon, and subsequently developed legal authority to open the parcel.
The package was found to contain four pounds of high grade marijuana, which has a “street value” of more than $20,000.
As a result of this investigation, officers charged Narel Rutherford, 50, with manufacturing marijuana, felony possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and maintaining a dwelling for the purpose of violating the controlled substance act.
Anyone with information about the crime is asked to call the Winston-Salem Police Department at 336-773-7700 or CrimeStoppers at 336-727-2800.
