Ryan Reynolds, the affable movie star turned power producer, is reviving the Home Alonefranchise. Kinda. The Deadpool star has been tapped to produce Stoned Alone, a promising-sounding comedy movie that, really, should have come out in like 2008. But we’re willing to give this one the benefit of the doubt.
Hotline Bling: Lakeith Stanfield and Tessa Thompson
According to Deadline, the film “centers around a twenty-something weed growing loser who misses the plane for his holiday ski trip. He makes the best of things by getting high. Paranoia sets in and he believes he hears someone break into his house. Turns out thieves have broken in. Fully stoned and fueled by paranoia, he tries to thwart the thieves and defend his castle.”
I don’t hate it, even if the concept of “being high” as a comedy crutch is outdated as all hell. An interesting buried tidbit is the hiring of female director (yeah, they exist, Venice) Augustine Frizzell, whose debut, Never Goin’ Back, hasn’t even hit theaters yet. There’s no casting news yet, but you just know Reynolds wishes he could be that “twenty-something weed growing loser.” Maybe he can have a word with the folks at Marvel and get some of that de-aging technology the studio is so fond of for its flashback scenes.
